Form Follows Plywood:Thick Stool (2023)
Over the years, Brooklyn-based POPA has been developing its Full sheet family of products made by strategically cutting plywood to minimize offcut waste. The main appeal of this approach to form-finding is balancing beauty, utility, structural logic, and material economy. The latest addition to the family is Thick Stool 2, able to be made on demand from Koskisen FSC-certified birch plywood. The faces of Koskisen are laminated with phenolic film, protecting against spills. A stacking stool, the design also works great as a side table. POPA is directed by Casey Mack, an architect.
